Putin REJECTS May ultimatum: 'Don't threaten a NUCLEAR power'...
The UK is a nuclear power but such talk is silliness since the incident is not of sufficient seriousness to even consider that. UK nuclear weapons will only be used in retaliation for similar action taken again against the UK It's what mutual deterrence means. That's why the UK nuclear deterrent operates from under the oceans. Few know where it is at any one time.

What will happen is that a number of Russian diplomats will be required to leave the UK and not be replaced. This will result probably in similar action from Russia.

Certain eminent Russians holding assets in London will have them frozen.

Certain Visas will be withdrawn (bad news for Chelsea supporters!)

RT will lose it's licence to broadcast in the UK (wait for the bleatings of the freedom to lie fraternity) The Russians say they will expel all UK journalists in retaliation.

What should happen is a complete suspension of diplomatic relations shall we say for a period of 12 months.

Complete freezing of Russian owned assets in he UK for a similar period.

Refusal to allow entrance into or passage through the UK to Russian passport holders also for a similar period.

All flights to UK airports from Russia should cease again for the same time.

That's about the limit as to what could be done.

State sponsored Cultural exchanges between the UK and Russia will cease.

So why didn't the convicted traitor quietly die in a Russian jail rather
than being poisoned years after the fact in a foreign country. Or could
it possibly be a false flag operation by those attempting to derail Nord

One more time; explain why a convicted traitor was swapped out in a

I think the explanation is perfectly logical and obvious.

Russia wanted to send a message to all its dissidents, all its secret
agents who are thinking of betraying their country and all its critics.

The Todal obviously thinks nonsense.

First, Skripal wasn't a dissident, his main interest was about money.

Second, several much more prominent persons (who were not exchanged, who
caused more harm to Russia, and who continued to be active in their anti-
Rissia activities, in contrast to Skripal) would be much more appropriate
for "sending a message", while in this case such an interpretation rather
undermines the spy exchange practice as such.

He was a traitor to the FSB. As you know.

Quite possibly that was because he wanted the money. Secret agents
aren't usually motivated by high moral principles. That saintly man, Kim
Philby, may have been a rare example.

The 'dissident' term was relevant only towards the USSR, the modern Russia
is not an ideocracy, and the exploitation, by inertia, of 'dissident' image
usually means a sly cover for something much less nice.

I think many people here could educate themselves by reading the full
text of the Litvinenko Inquiry Report.

Still, it's easier to read Twitter and to peruse the witterings of a
former ambassador who knows fuck all about nerve agents other than what
he's read on the internet.

I think the explanation is perfectly logical and obvious.
Russia wanted to send a message to all its dissidents, all its secret
agents who are thinking of betraying their country and all its critics.
We can reach out and kill you no matter where you take refuge.
They could have drawn and quartered him in Red Square in 2006 if that
was the case instead of sentencing him to 13 years and then trading him
off for some of their spies the US was holding. If your dog craps on the
floor and you smack him with a rolled up newspaper 12 years later he's
apt to be confused.
The objective wasn't to punish Skripal. It was to make an example of him.
The poisoner has been in touch with you, and told you this? Goodness me, how
privileged you must feel.
Post by The Todal
It was to make an example of him.
Crikey, I had no idea we had such high level contributors on this newsgroup.
Are you sure that you have not contravened the Official Secrets Act, or have
you had personal clearance by the security agencies to give us this info?
I think many people here could educate themselves by reading the full
text of the Litvinenko Inquiry Report.
Still, it's easier to read Twitter and to peruse the witterings of a
former ambassador who knows fuck all about nerve agents other than what
he's read on the internet.
Oh dear. A contradictory source of information to the useless UK propaganda
blurb seems to be getting your back up.

I wonder why that might be?

Isn’t it rather hypocritical that the same people who fall over themselves
to lecture us minions about the accused being innocent until proven guilty,
when a right wing UK citizen is accused of any crime; are the same people who
can be highly confident of accusing Russians of definite guilt within hours
of an alleged poisoning event.

For all you, the British government, and the entire gullible UK media and
newspaper drones know, it may have been a joint suicide pact which has gone
horribly wrong.

Yes, of course. Get some Novichok off eBay, splash it on all over like
a bit of Brut, go for a nice walk in the park, sit down on a bench, and
die in agony, twitching and suffocating in public half an hour later.

What's not to like?

I see.

So it is laughable to the point of infantile reaction to think of two people
attempting to top themselves in a way they could be sure would fuck
Russia’s name up for the foreseeable; but so so responsible to think of
someone else doing it to them for the same reasons?

How naive can you people get?
