From state controlled media so you can believe it.

This will reverse as more invaders enter the UK....

More than half in UK are non-religious, suggests survey

For the first time, more than half of people in the UK do not identify as
religious, a survey suggests.

Last year 53% of people described themselves as having "no religion", in a
survey of 2,942 adults by the National Centre for Social Research.

Among those aged between 18 and 25, the proportion was higher at 71%.

The Bishop of Liverpool said God and the Church "remains relevant" and that
saying "no religion was not the same as considered atheism".

The figures, shown to BBC Radio 5 live, reveal a downward trend for
religious belief in the UK.

When the national centre's British Social Attitudes survey began in 1983,
31% of respondents said they had no religion.

A random sample of adults were involved in the latest survey and they were
asked whether they regarded themselves as belonging to a particular
religion.

Almost two in three 25 to 34 year olds said they were non-religious, while
75% of people aged 75 and over said they were religious.

Non more so than the Jehovah Witlesse Zombies. I asked one when she
knocked on our door why do you keep annoying people by knocking on
peoples doors on a sunday morning and she said because we are giving
people the chance to be "saved and go to Paradise". I asked the
question "what if I followed the ten commandments to the letter and was
good and kind to everyone, but didn't believe in god, will I be saved
and go to Paradise".
Without hesitation she replied "no".

That says it all and that's why I call them Jehovah Witless Zombies.

I made one guy go hopping mad one time. He wanted to hand me a pamphlet
which I kid you not had a drawing of cavemen being chased by dinosaurs
on the cover. I only asked the obvious questions and pointed out that
the fossil evidence didn't support that according to lots of people who
have spent lots of time studying and learning stuff and this little chap
went bananas and started screaming stuff at me about God and hellfire.
Anyway, while he was dancing his female companion and I had a moment.
Which according to my unshakeable belief system meant she fancied me
period.

of course most people spend little time 'thinking for themselves'

they are busy chasing dicky birds or otherwise surviving..

most people who try to 'think for themselves'... wander into
fantasy and idiocy...

we need road sweepers...civilisation may need thinkers...
but the species can only afford thinkers when a society
is wealthy
survival comes first

thinking effectively takes enormous efforts and self-discipline...
making up just-so stories about how wonderful it would be...if
is hardly to be termed 'thinking'...

most people who try 'thinking for themselves' are far more
likely to cause trouble and break things...

look at mediocrities like bliar and o'barmy...

Because, despite what you might believe, socialism is *not* a religion...
of course it a religion...let alone in your understanding of religion.
a firmly held series of beliefs held by faith alone that are out of

Unfortunately there will always be people who are happier being told
what to believe, rather than thinking critically themselves.
exactly so...
consider if you have a family to provide for that takes all

what time do you have to study evolution or theology or

is it unfortunate that we have burger sellers and brain surgeons?
or even car mechanics and quantum physicists?
would not the next starve or the pollution shorten your and

I failed to find any logical progression in those last few sentences?
I failed to find any "logical progression" in any of his

This will reverse as more invaders enter the UK....
More than half in UK are non-religious, suggests survey
For the first time, more than half of people in the UK do not identify as
religious, a survey suggests.
I've been fighting this battle for 40+ years

You wouldn't believe how hard it used to be to be this "status"

Yeah, ticking the CofE box was always the easy often times necessary
option.

The 18 - 25 stat was very interesting. 71% wow.

I wonder what the under 18 stats would look like. From my experience I
would guess an even greater proportion are unbelievers.

Orwell was a lifelong Anglican in name, but not so much in spirit. He was baptized an Anglican1 and buried, by specific request, in the Anglican tradition.2 He did attend a Catholic school as a young boy, but would, later in life, refer to the Catholic Church as “parasitic” and “those stinking Catholics.”3

Orwell seems to have felt a sort of loyalty to Anglicanism

It may mean nothing to you if your only interest is finding out if
there's a change in belief in deities as people age.

However, in itself it means there's difference between young and old
people's interest in religion which is a strange definition of nothing.

Personally, I'm having a crisis of faith right now as recently I stated
that I believe everything you tell me.

I hope the *cure* involves flagellation.

I noticed as a kitten that something didn't add up with the God squad
and basically at an intuitive level I still feel the same. Too many smug
grins, and strange grammar which tries to obfuscate the great void
called religious belief. I get belief, we all believe stuff, just not
blind belief or worse the made up stuff which just begs you to piss on
the feet of clay upon which it stands.

So I don't get the responsible or realistic angle. I don't see either
relates to the God thing. It just looks like a kinda group therapy for
the weak and vulnerable who seem willing to trade themselves for some
kind of false power sharing feeling fantasy. It's a sheeple thing. Cats
are not really into that.

From state controlled media so you can believe it.
This will reverse as more invaders enter the UK....
More than half in UK are non-religious, suggests survey
For the first time, more than half of people in the UK do not identify as
religious, a survey suggests.
I've been fighting this battle for 40+ years
You wouldn't believe how hard it used to be to be this "status"
Yeah, ticking the CofE box was always the easy often times necessary
option.
The 18 - 25 stat was very interesting. 71% wow.
means nothing until you compare them with them as more mature people
It may mean nothing to you if your only interest is finding out if
there's a change in belief in deities as people age.
you are referring to populations...to take one unstable element
gives you very little information about the populations
I just think it's an interesting stat which incidentally tallies with my
own experience. Hedonism and science has killed God or at the very least
maimed him.
may be...
but people tend to get more responsible and realistic as they age...
are you not thinking of people as if they are more static then they
are...
i do realise as a pussy you will tend never to experience humans
over their full life time spans
Cats
are not really into that.
intuition as a substitute for experience...that's a reasonable
approach for a person short of time...

you could regard your intuition of the *word* religion as a
form of condensed experience handed down by your
pussy ancestors...
no pussy has enough time even in 9 lives to experience/
learn very much...summaries of the experience of
prior pussies is a short cut to crude information from
the past like your pussy mummy...

the coyotes will still get you in the end...

beyond that, pussies have too little and weak an intellect,
to roam very far in the few space/time blinks you will get

better to try to add a snippet for those who stalk after you
have moved on...or off

We don't let people make potentially hazardous choices until they reach
a certain age (although even that doesn't necessarily imply sufficient
maturity).

People cannot legally have sex until 16, drive until they are 17, join
the army or vote until they are 18. ISTM there should be similar
restrictions on imparting religious beliefs until people have a level of
maturity commensurate with understanding the metaphorical nature of
religion.

won't make Mr Jones respect you.
Eh!? that's not what I meant. If you don't show me respect, you can't
expect any in return.
Get it?
Re-read what I wrote. "That assumes you meet the same people repeatedly."
No it doesn't. That applies to anyone you interact with.
Bullshit. If I don't show Mr Harrison respect, then never see him again
in my life, how can he repay it?
What has not seeing someone again got to do with respect?
If I met you for the first time and I effed and blinded at you for no
reason, you would not gain my respect, simply because you were showing
disrespect to me.
We're discussing what you said earlier: "If you don't show respect, then
you'll receive no respect."
This cannot happen if the person who could have given you respect back
is no longer there.
Do you show respect or disrespect to a copper who catches you speeding?
My guess is that you'd show him respect and call him/her "Sir".
You would then gain his respect.
I show no respect at all, I lie.

None of our family are religious, but we all teach our kids manners
and respect.
Respect has to be earned,
It annoys me when I hear that.  The default is that respect should
always be accorded and only able to be lost.
'Respect has to be earned' is a phrase trotted out only by those who
actually have no respect for others.

Even if you were pretending, even if you had your fingers crossed while

nice to them. And that's all that matters. No-one can take your

We don't let people make potentially hazardous choices until they
reach a certain age (although even that doesn't necessarily imply
sufficient maturity).
People cannot legally have sex until 16, drive until they are 17,
join the army or vote until they are 18. ISTM there should be
similar restrictions on imparting religious beliefs until people
have a level of maturity commensurate with understanding the
metaphorical nature of religion.
Totally agree.
Now tell us how you'd stop it, and what action you'd take against
parents who do it.
 >
You can't stop religious nuts who are determined to doctrinate and
brainwash their children.
Then it's pointless laying down rules.  They're just not going to obey
them.  Then you have the problem of discovering it, proving it and
punishing (how?) those who do it.
Post by Bod
Fair minded intelligent people will let their children choose if they
want to believe in a religion or not in their own time, without being
brainwashed by biased parents.
There's no law to say everyone has to be fair-minded or intelligent though.
Yes you have a good point and on reflection....there shouldn't be.
It's sad though that parents indoctrinate there personal beliefs on
their children though.
would you rather they taught them nothing...
or taught them your beliefs
I'd rather the parents let them have freedom of thought and let them
personally choose to believe or not.
a child knows nothing...

most adults know very little...

how would you hope a child could make much in the manner
of useful judgements...

would you tell a child to judge whether cleaning their teeth or
killing an annoying acquaintance were 'good' or 'bad'
Post by Bod

Sorry if it doesn't fit your agenda but the benefits of paying this
insurance are here.

I don't make the rules. I just pay according to the terms of the policy.
So why do you feel the need to shame the payees when they claim
according to the terms?

Feel free to shame the fucking government who change the terms of the
policy whenever it suits them but don't shame the policyholders. It's

I just think it's an interesting stat which incidentally tallies with my
own experience. Hedonism and science has killed God or at the very least
maimed him.
may be...
but people tend to get more responsible and realistic as they age...
We don't let people make potentially hazardous choices until they reach
a certain age (although even that doesn't necessarily imply sufficient
maturity).
true...and 'we' is a deeply annoying fellow

People cannot legally have sex until 16, drive until they are 17, join

ISTM there should be similar
restrictions on imparting religious beliefs until people have a level of
maturity commensurate with understanding the metaphorical nature of
religion.
true...is that the same as the 'metaphysical understanding'?

were does consciousness go? and where did it come from?

is energy either created or destroyed?

I'm a cat. This riddles thing is just plain annoying. Nietzsche was a
very fine writer and thinker. I hear Hitler was a fan. Hitler had good
taste in many things. It's an undeniable fact. It doesn't follow that
Nietzsche would have been a big fan of Hitler or this unnamed Saracen
either. Neither does it follow that H or the USar have done other than
cherry picked whatever of N's thoughts that suited their agenda or
appealed to them. I did the same. Which cherries will you pick this

but people tend to get more responsible and realistic as they age...
We don't let people make potentially hazardous choices until they reach
a certain age (although even that doesn't necessarily imply sufficient
maturity).
People cannot legally have sex until 16, drive until they are 17, join
the army or vote until they are 18. ISTM there should be similar
restrictions on imparting religious beliefs until people have a level of
maturity commensurate with understanding the metaphorical nature of
religion.
There should be no age restrictions on anything. What is this fucking stupid idea that young folk shouldn't be allowed to think for themselves? Let them drink and fuck if they wish. If they can pass their driving test, they should also be allowed to drive.

At last the world catches up
