Migrants create jobs rather than take them. Far from squeezing hospitals
and schools, they subsidise and staff them. The real damage is caused by
austerity

Cut the niceties. Skip the jargon. Let us speak the plain truth, however
ugly. What is driving this country headlong into a chaotic and punishing
Brexit is a blind desire to cut immigration. That’s why people voted to
leave the EU, politicians and pundits tell us. That’s what makes a
Norway-style deal impossible, since it would almost certainly allow
freedom of movement with mainland Europe – and any prime minister
accepting that would be strung up by the press for treachery.

The unmentionable truth is that the immigration most would like to cut is coloured immigration, mostly from the third world. Whether or not this is desirable depends on your values, whether for example you are happy with the idea of a coffee coloured future for this country. Such thoughts are forbidden, however, by contemporary morality. If you don't want that furture are going the hell in a handcart.

If you look at the problems with the NHS, they certainly didn't start with
austerity.

Not a lot of people are aware that under New Labour, buildings owned by the NHS
were sold to management agencies on the basis that the upkeep was too
expensive. It shouldn't require an IQ of 160 to work out that the NHS is now
leasing buildings from management agenies whose fees not only include the
upkeep but also a profit on their 'services'. It was a cynical cash grab by
Blair that has further encumbered the NHS for generations to come.

Labour truly are the nasty party and the Guardian is its mouthpiece.

they increase the usage/crowding of current hospitals unless
expanded
which may or may not balance over time as other decisions
and actions vary

I enjoy making curries. They don’t have to be red-hot to be tasty.

My grandchildren (4 years, and 18 months) eat my home made chicken korma like
there is no tomorrow.

My wife cooks a vegetarian (quorn mince) shepherds pie for them and they give
up after a few mouthfuls.

I don’t know what it is about mild curries, but they are a hit with our
family.

She is somewhat obsessed by astrology; and to be fair I did send off secretly
for a full astrological breakdown of a person with my birthdate and time,
using a false name - and the report I received was so uncannily correct about
my personality I began to think I had a stalker.

However, I am still fence sitting between science and mumbo-jumbo.

A girlfriend of mine decades ago had a mother who was interested in
astrology, and an old book she had was lying around, so I had a quick
read of what my own type was supposed to be like. I was surprised how
accurate it was, even down to the shape of my fingernails (I am Cancer,
and our fingernails are meant to be crab-body-shaped, which mine are).
The personality (basically insecure and introverted, especially when I
was young) was spot-on.

So, I can certainly imagine that the time of year you are born (WRT
prevailing atmospheric conditions) can have a physical effect on your
development. The day-to-day Mystic Meg stuff, has never (at least to
me) seemed even slightly reliable.

Mystic Meg is a television personality. The style of Astrology she espouses is
what I disparagingly refer to as 'Sun Sign Astrology'. Genuine Astrology uses
a natal chart to plot the Ascendant, Midheaven, planetary signs and houses etc.
For those interested in predictive astrology, there are different techniques.

I'm aware that she is probably at the less respectable end of the
reputational spectrum :-) But do you use astrology regularly, and find
that it give you reliable results? Or do you prefer a life with some
surprises? You suggest that astrology is accurate, but to what extent
is it precise?

It gives a detailed summary of a person's personality and the influences/types
of challenge they will face throughout life.

She is somewhat obsessed by astrology; and to be fair I did send off
secretly for a full astrological breakdown of a person with my birthdate
and time, using a false name - and the report I received was so uncannily
correct about my personality I began to think I had a stalker.
However, I am still fence sitting between science and mumbo-jumbo.
A girlfriend of mine decades ago had a mother who was interested in
astrology, and an old book she had was lying around, so I had a quick read
of what my own type was supposed to be like. I was surprised how accurate
it was, even down to the shape of my fingernails (I am Cancer, and our
fingernails are meant to be crab-body-shaped, which mine are). The
personality (basically insecure and introverted, especially when I was
young) was spot-on.
So, I can certainly imagine that the time of year you are born (WRT
prevailing atmospheric conditions) can have a physical effect on your
development. The day-to-day Mystic Meg stuff, has never (at least to me)
seemed even slightly reliable.
Mystic Meg is a television personality. The style of Astrology she espouses
is what I disparagingly refer to as 'Sun Sign Astrology'. Genuine Astrology
uses a natal chart to plot the Ascendant, Midheaven, planetary signs and
houses etc. For those interested in predictive astrology, there are
different techniques.
I'm aware that she is probably at the less respectable end of the
reputational spectrum :-) But do you use astrology regularly, and find that
it give you reliable results? Or do you prefer a life with some surprises?

I can believe that. I can believe that one's personality can be
influenced by the time of year of birth; and that that personality can
to some extent dictate the kind of influences and challenges faced in
life. I am quite certain that being the youngest person in the class
throughout school has affected my personality. And I am sure that
school year joining times are still the result of some more primitive
season-based activities.

This is all becoming very familiar.

The wife has software on her iPad which plots all manner of charts from birth
details. I just nod sagely and leave all the predictions to her.

Migrants create jobs rather than take them. Far from squeezing hospitals and
schools, they subsidise and staff them. The real damage is caused by
austerity
Cut the niceties. Skip the jargon. Let us speak the plain truth, however
ugly. What is driving this country headlong into a chaotic and punishing
Brexit is a blind desire to cut immigration. That’s why people voted to leave
the EU, politicians and pundits tell us. That’s what makes a Norway-style
deal impossible, since it would almost certainly allow freedom of movement
with mainland Europe – and any prime minister accepting that would be strung
up by the press for treachery.
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/may/17/immigration-good-for-britain-bust-myths-austerity
What a load of absolute rot. If you want to see first hand what mass
immigration has done for this country, go for a stroll around Tower Hamlets and
experience the daily racism that English people will endure.

Anyone who fails to understand how immigration affects the job market and
contributes to the housing 'crisis' (more of a population crisis) has no grasp
of economics. Immigration can never generate enough jobs to replace the ones
that are removed from the job market for native britons.

I don't know why you're so keen to quote on an article that talks about the job
market, though. I can't see that really affects you...

I've never seen anyone here demean the disabled. Or anywhere, in fact,
since (in Britain, at least) it's widely considered to be unacceptable.
I know that schoolchildren do, but it's just a sign of their immaturity.

Migrants create jobs rather than take them. Far from squeezing hospitals
and schools, they subsidise and staff them. The real damage is caused by
austerity
Cut the niceties. Skip the jargon. Let us speak the plain truth, however
ugly. What is driving this country headlong into a chaotic and punishing
Brexit is a blind desire to cut immigration. That’s why people voted to
leave the EU, politicians and pundits tell us. That’s what makes a
Norway-style deal impossible, since it would almost certainly allow
freedom of movement with mainland Europe – and any prime minister
accepting that would be strung up by the press for treachery.

What a load of absolute rot. If you want to see first hand what mass
immigration has done for this country, go for a stroll around Tower
Hamlets and experience the daily racism that English people will endure.
Anyone who fails to understand how immigration affects the job market and
contributes to the housing 'crisis' (more of a population crisis) has no
grasp of economics. Immigration can never generate enough jobs to
replace the ones that are removed from the job market for native britons.
I don't know why you're so keen to quote on an article that talks about
the job market, though. I can't see that really affects you...

I think there is a lot of that around. Sometimes though when I hear of the
appeals, I think there a lot going on to 'catch' people out when they are
genuine. I have heard some real horror stores about that. Better and more
fairer investigation is needed. But yes, the fakers need to be caught,
after all, our taxes are paying for it.

I think everyone agrees genuine fakers should be caught. However this
should not be achieved by assuming all claimants are guilty till proved
innocent. Neither should the assumption of fakery be based on a cynical
moving of the goalposts as to what constitutes real disability.

I lack the requisite skills to drive a car. I'm better off with a

onto universal credit.

£40 a day?

What was that for?

I have just watched a news article which said a wheelchair user was
“traumatised” when she had to wait 30 minutes in a lobby for her carer
because she could not use the stairs or the lift.

Why can’t wheelchair users a lift? So what if the doors close on the chair,
they are programmed to open again until they are able to close fully. Why is
a 30 minute wait traumatic?

There was another article whingeing about transgender people having to wait 2
years to get NHS treatment.

WTF?

Are my taxes really going to pay for people who want to go into the ladies'
changing rooms for a cheap thrill, and not get arrested?

immigration has done for this country, go for a stroll around Tower Hamlets
and experience the daily racism that English people will endure.
Anyone who fails to understand how immigration affects the job market and
contributes to the housing 'crisis' (more of a population crisis) has no
grasp of economics. Immigration can never generate enough jobs to
replace
the ones that are removed from the job market for native britons.
I don't know why you're so keen to quote on an article that talks about the
job market, though. I can't see that really affects you...
And yet it's ok for some here to pontificate about disability and demean the
disabled even though they have sod all experience of disability. The
hypocrisy is noted. It seems it's ok for right wing posters to mention things
that don't affect them but not left wing posters.
Who exactly has demeaned disabled people here?

He bangs on about that constantly and yet I, like you, have never seen a
single occurrence of it!
He reminds me of a couple of people who no longer post here...

I have vague memories but I can't remember who. It seems to me that Tim
blames the world even though most of us have nothing to do with it.
TBH the constant whining is getting boring. It that me demeaning disabled

Cut the niceties. Skip the jargon. Let us speak the plain truth, however
ugly. What is driving this country headlong into a chaotic and punishing
Brexit is a blind desire to cut immigration. That’s why people voted to
leave the EU, politicians and pundits tell us. That’s what makes a
Norway-style deal impossible, since it would almost certainly allow
freedom
of movement with mainland Europe – and any prime minister
accepting
that
would be strung up by the press for treachery.

Yes, although I wouldn't necessarily call it squalor. It was a decent sized
flat for a single person, seemed to be kept clean and tidy and had a computer
powerful enough to play the latest games.

By the government's drive to reduce benefits for the disabled .
Preferring to blame and punish the disabled for the economic crisis of

what constitutes disability.

Employers are required to make things as easy as they possibly can so as
not to discriminate against disability. You could make an argument that
one consequence of this is that more disabled people are required to
work, but it isn't necessarily the government that is forcing these
changes. You could just as easily 'blame' trades unions. If it is
becoming easier for disabled people to work, then yes, the goalposts
are, in fact, being widened. Assuming that one actually wants to work,
that is. Since I personally would prefer not to have to, I would
actually suggest that most people /don't/ want to work. I know perhaps
a handful of people that truthfully enjoy it.

By the government's drive to reduce benefits for the disabled .
That was mainly because idle people were pretending they had a bad back in
order to get £££s.

However, the benefits system is not designed to compensate chippy people who
think the country owes them lots of money because they have a prosthetic
limb.

grasp of economics.  Immigration can never generate enough jobs to replace
the ones that are removed from the job market for native britons.
I don't know why you're so keen to quote on an article that talks about
the job market, though.  I can't see that really affects you...
And yet it's ok for some here to pontificate about disability and demean
the disabled even though they have sod all experience of disability. The
hypocrisy is noted. It seems it's ok for right wing posters to mention
things that don't affect them but not left wing posters.
Who exactly has demeaned disabled people here?
==
He bangs on about that constantly and yet I, like you, have never seen a
single occurrence of it!
Many here support government policy which anyone who's honest and intelligent
accepts is demeaning to the disabled.
I suppose you're right, assuming you get to decide what constitutes honesty and
intelligence.

What a load of absolute rot. If you want to see first hand what mass
immigration has done for this country, go for a stroll around Tower
Hamlets and experience the daily racism that English people will endure.

Mass immigration turns neighborhoods into ghettos:

"Migrants" are little more than "insects":

At least the Poles can pass for White:

Fortunately the Jews have a country of their own to flee to:
