'Laval sneered at such tomfoolery. "These silly amateurs," he
explained to a diplomat, "perhaps think they know how to tear the
french away from representative institutions. they are wrong. the
French people will not give them up as easily as that. The only way to
make it forget them is to administer a stiff dose of Socialism. I have
finally come round full circle, I have returned to my youth. I alone
am capable of severing the masses from democracy." His meaning was
clear enough. Petain's gang was perfectly sure that Laval would take
advantage of the understanding he was so eager to make with Hitler to
set up a totalitarian state.'

this refers to around 1941 with the vichy french politicians
considering such actions as turning france on the uk in
concert with national socialist germany.

There seem to have been several times where, even though we were for
short periods supposed to be on the same side, France remained our
natural enemies.

the real history is quite amazing when it is compared with the
leftist propaganda that has replaced reality over the last
70 years...

there were french politicians hating britain and hoping germany would
win! and others hoping the anglos would rescue them

note also the natural assumption that socialism was congruent
with dictatorship and the route to establishing dictatorship
not the swill pretences of the likes of bliar and agent cob...

those who don't study history!

Might I ask where (i.e. in which country) you live? This thread seems
to be all over the place. I live in the UK, and I think it's fair to
say that the conflicting interests of the British and French empires
have caused more than a few problems worldwide. :-)

America has a couple of Allies ..i.e. France and Israel that require
watching.

France is, of course, our natural ally. Always has been, almost
assuredly always will be. Of all European nations, France is most like
the USA.
