"Jamaica deportation: Home Office flight leaves UK despite court ruling"

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51456387

Apart from members of their family, criminal associates and bleeding-heart
do-gooders, who wouldn't want these foreign miscreants out of the country?
They abused out hospitality.

Hopefully those Jamaicans who didn't catch the flight on a highly spurious
technicality will be on their way soon. At least Sajid Javid and Prithi
Patel are taking a commendably hard line.

Did you know that freeing the slaves cost us £20 Million (£16 Billion in
todays terms)in tax until recently to compensate the slave owners .

...And?

Does that mean that the descendants of poeple who may or may not have
been slaves ought to be allowed to commit serious crimes with impunity?

Definitely not, but they probably think they have justification.

What's it matter what they think?

The pity is that we can't deport every convict on his release from jail.

Don't be so soft Mel, we should just execute them instead of sending
them to jail.

Yes I did. That was 150 years ago.

Today's flight concerned people who entered the country illegally and committed serious crimes.

It isn't clear that any of them entered the UK illegally, but is a fact
that each of them had committed serious crimes, any one of which was
incompatible with the status of guest in any country.

If you or I committed an offence one-tenth as serious in the USA, we'd
be on a plane back to Blighty the day we were reeleased from custody.
And quite right too.

Over on the website of the Grauniad, one of them complains that he
"only" committed a crime which netted him 20 months on his "first
offence" (whether gross or net, he doesn't say).

To get even 20 months gross on a first offence, the crime has to be
pretty serious.

What he really means is not "first offence" but "first time he got
caught".

It's anybody's guess how many times he committed other offences without
being apprehended but it would be safe to bet it's not zero.

Regarding your example of the US, I believe you have fewer legal rights if
you enter using the Visa Waiver Program -- or so a US immigration official
told me soon after the scheme was introduced. The same might well apply
to these undocumented offenders in the UK.

I've only ever been to the USA on the Visa Waiver programme (I don't
need a full-blown visa for my travels there).

But I am doubleplus-wary of committing any offences whilst there -
especially, if not exclusively, whilst in control of a motor vehicle.

This should be a major issue for the EU trade deal....zero tariffs on exports of beurocrats from the UK to the EU. Let's face it, the EU can't get enougth of them and the UK has too many; should be a win-win.

Who do they propose paying it to? Given the number of black Americans
now, they'd receive about £1 each... :P
why compensate those who did best in the long run?
what about those who were left behind?
Indeed - ISTM the descendants of emancipated slaves are doing better
than a lot of the cousins still living in Africa...

Abused our hospitality? What, they are guests in our household and
shouldn't use up all the bog paper or spoil the stair carpet with muddy
footprints?

The principle seems to be that if you are an immigrant (even at the age
of 4) and have the misfortune to have dual nationality, you will be held
to a higher standard of behaviour than ordinary British born thugs and
sociopaths. The latter can stab you with a broken bottle or rape your
mother and face the usual terms of imprisonment and then be released
back into the British community. But the immigrants can expect to be
booted out to a country that they have no job or home in, and to leave
their children behind for our state to take care of.

It's a fundamentally racist policy as well as an inhumane policy. But it
pleases all the Daily Mail readers. Hurrah! One more drug dealer off the
streets and out of Britain!

Sorry, I seem to be getting mixed information. As I understand the Jamacians who were deported were people who entered the country illegally and ran up a criminal record. Is this not the case?

I think the argument is that they have acquired British citizenship, perhaps
by osmosis, because they have been here for so long.

When it comes to sex abuse, people like Reginald Davies get convicted of sex
abuse dating back 63 years. Similarly, an undocmented UK resident going back
decades still has a case to answer.

As far as I know, there is no statute of limitations here regarding these
matters.

Deporting criminals is normal. They are not being held to a higher standard of
behaviour; they have further consequences just as I might expect further
consequences if I moved elsewhere and committed a crime.

What is racist about removing people who won't abide by the law? I suppose
you think border control checks are fundamentally racist too.

More to the point, why do you care more about the non-existent rights of

The fact we have provided generous hospitality and a good home to these
foreigners for decades does not make them our responsibility, especially
if they become serious criminals.

out of the country? They abused out hospitality.
Hopefully those Jamaicans who didn't catch the flight on a highly
spurious technicality will be on their way soon. At least Sajid Javid
and Prithi Patel are taking a commendably hard line.
Abused our hospitality? What, they are guests in our household and
shouldn't use up all the bog paper or spoil the stair carpet with muddy
footprints?
The principle seems to be that if you are an immigrant (even at the age
of 4) and have the misfortune to have dual nationality, you will be
held to a higher standard of behaviour than ordinary British born thugs
and sociopaths.
Unfortunately, we can't deport "British born thugs".
Deporting criminals is normal. They are not being held to a higher
standard of behaviour; they have further consequences just as I might
expect further consequences if I moved elsewhere and committed a crime.

The latter can stab you with a broken bottle or rape your
mother and face the usual terms of imprisonment and then be released
back into the British community. But the immigrants can expect to be
booted out to a country that they have no job or home in, and to leave
their children behind for our state to take care of.
Perhaps they should think about that before they stab people with broken
bottles &c.

It's a fundamentally racist policy as well as an inhumane policy. But
it pleases all the Daily Mail readers. Hurrah! One more drug dealer off
the streets and out of Britain!
What is racist about removing people who won't abide by the law? I
suppose you think border control checks are fundamentally racist too.
More to the point, why do you care more about the non-existent rights of
criminals than the victims?
The fact we have provided generous hospitality and a good home to these
foreigners for decades does not make them our responsibility, especially
if they become serious criminals.
Indeed but Todal is a Socialist who thinks the State bears ultimate
responsibility. Personal responsibility be damned!

The wife of Rayan Crawford (a habitual burlgar convicted 10 times for 22
offences) says he won't survive in Jamaica. He suffers from blount
disease, a growth disorder that causes bowed legs, and has no-one in the
country he can turn to for help she says.

I wonder why he thinks law abiding British taxpayers should fund his
future treatment on the NHS, when all he does is burgle them. It would be
instructive to read the twenty-two victim impact statements who now live
in constant fear of another home invasion.

If it is as debilitating as she suggests, I wonder that it didn't manage to
stop him from burgling peple's houses. From what I understand, gaining
unlawful entry into people's dwellings can require a certain level of agility.

Indeed, it does seem that there is an expectation that foreign criminals be
looked after. I understand the criminals feeling that way because they are
ultimately selfish and put their interests above those of their victims. What
I don't understand is Leftist do-gooders feeling the same way.

All inhabitants who commit serious offences should expect to to be
prosecuted and probably imprisoned. British or Jamaican.

Those who never had British citizenship (irrespective of how long they
lived here) were resident at the government's benevolence. Now the
government has exercised its discretion not to permit these foreigners
further residence here.

The fact these criminals were living here for decades, being provided with
benefits and services, does not give them the right to remain after
serious criminal activity.

If it turns out these foreigners have few ties abroad to go to, then they
should have factored that into their decision before committing a serious
criminal offense.
