"Communism is a failed system, a universally failed system. And I
don’t see socialism as a very useful substitute, but that’s another
story,” Biden said in the White House East Room.

Is this going to be another "There's nothing wrong with it but they've
never done it properly" defence of communism (or socialism)? :-)

Well, when nominally communist regimes were so obviously economically
inferior to capitalist regimes it was easy to dismiss communism.

Now we have China as the economic powerhouse of the world we have to at
least consider if communism is workable.

Even without the economic example of China there may be aspects of
communism/socialism which are desirable. After the collapse of the
Soviet Union a number of my colleagues came from Eastern Block
countries. They spoke of feeling a little cheated by western propaganda
and that life in the eastern block had its advantages.

I think China must be considered Fascist rather than Communist. The
government does not directly control business processes, but exerts
strong indirect control.

And there are other considerations than the wholly economic.

they say they are, and always i listen to what people say

i've done a summary of socialist beliefs
https://www.abelard.org/briefings/socialist_religion.htm

socialism is a religion, it has some low level complexity. most
people who claim to be socialists are simply thick...that makes
theological discussion somewhat difficult!
