I've just been looking at coverage of Labour's manifesto.

You would have to be mad to vote for a party with these policies.

I'm mad.

Therefore I'm voting Labour.

Which part of "insanity" did you not understand?

My motto, to the extent that I have one, has been noted often enough,
and I've always conformed to it. It's the one I've given to old
Maigret, who resembles me in certain points ...
'understand and judge not.'
Georges Simenon
[Quotes from Jules Maigret]

"How do you explain that?"
"I don't explain it."
p.105, Maigret and the killer

"You don't agree with them?"
"I don't know enough to contradict them. The only difference between
hem and me is I don't divide people into categories."
"But it's necessary."
"Necessary why?"
"To judge them, for example."
"It's not my role to judge."
p.159, Maigret and the killer

A decision must be made; that does not imply that the decision must be determined by a single indiviual even if that individual is part pf the decision making.

In an election voters cast their opinions, the decision is collective.

This is different from Magrait's case where the detective is part of a pool of persons who collect data, the decision is made by a judge, a collective decision of several judges, or the collective decision of a jury (AFAIK in UK and France at least a definitive judgement on a criminal case can never be made by a single individual).

all reasonable comment

"In point of fact our chief job is to protect the State in the first
place—whatever government is in power, with its institutions; in the
second place the currency, public property and private property; and
then, last of all, the lives of the individual private citizens.

" 'Did you ever take a look into the Penal Code? You have to read as
far as page 177 before you come to anything about cries against human
beings. One day later on, when I retire, I'll work it out precisely.
!but let's say that three-quarters of the Code, if not four-fifths, is
concerned with goods and chattels, real estate, forged currency,
forgeries of public and private documents, falsifications of wills,
etc., etc. In short, with money in all its shapes and forms … To such
an extent that Article 274, on mendicancy, comes before Article 295,
on wilful homicide …' "
p.230, Maigret and the Lazy Burglar

it is also necessary to distinguish decisions actions...but i'm
trying not to confuse :-)

In the UK today, I'd have said that at least 90% of the law concerns
taxation, the thing always uppermost in the mind of any government.

It's not a matter of which party in power would be 'better', as to
trying to guess which would do least damage. Most of the trouble in
the world is caused by government action. Certainly all of the wars,
and taxes are not levied for the benefit of the taxed.

To a large degree, yes. Some taxes do benefit the taxed. Money
used to repair roads, for example.
Sadly, the benefits are greatly outweighed by the rest.

I've just been looking at coverage of Labour's manifesto.
You would have to be mad to vote for a party with these policies.
I'm mad.
Therefore I'm voting Labour.
Which part of "insanity" did you not understand?
You vote for whomever you wish to see win. If you want to see
Labour win, vote Labour. If you want Tory, vote Tory. Etc.
That would be reasonable if he lived in a democracy, but he lives in the
UK, which is a large-grained-FPTP two-party oligarchy.
I'm not saying the candidate he votes for will win. Only that he
should vote for the one he wants to win.
You've achieved new depths in profundity with that pearl of wisdom.

Perhaps not. Tactical voting is often the optimal strategy.

Nope, you only achieved a new depth of inanity with your latest inane troll,
you endlessly projecting illiterate serb peasant!

Screaming Lord Sutch is sadly not standing in this election, as far as
I know.

But either Corbyn or Johnson would fit his shoes.
