Recently, there has been much talk about US banning Chinese from studying
in the US. That would be a blessing in disguise for China. Those Chinese
who go to study in the US is a brain drain from China. Many don't return
and end up working for the US. Worse than that, they are used by the US to
work against the interest of China. Those outstanding ones will be used to
develop weapon systems to be used against China. There is the case of a
Chinese female who goes to study in the US and is used by the US to crack
the encryption code of the Beidou (北斗), the Chinese equivalent of the US
GPS. The Americans are so pleased that they heap recognition awards on
her.

Yup. And if the students dare to come back, they'll forever be watched by
the secret police after being exposed to "corrupting" Western values...

Very true ! They will always be considered to be "brainwashed"
and thus less trustworthy than their never-left-home peers.

Totalitarian states create a false reality from lies, distortions
and cherry-picked facts which tends to justify their existence
and the way they do things. Ideas from outside this "bubble"
are VERY destabilizing. Note how heavily Xi has been censoring
the internet of late ... he is VERY worried. The biggest threat to
Xi and his "communists" is not US trade tarriffs but western
ideas and its bigger bag of Truths. Xi does not look so good
in that mirror.

Sometimes I wonder if they're really "students" at all:
